We have been notified of upcoming work along the A38 in Filton during the rest of this year.

The work, to install improved walking, wheeling (use of a mobility scooter, wheelchair or pushchair), and cycling facilities, will be carried out on the A38 between the Filton roundabout and the Cribbs Patchway New Neighbourhood (CPNN) entrance.

The work will start on Monday 5 August and is expected to last until the end of the year.

The improvements being installed include:

  • A two-way segregated cycle path on the western side of the carriageway.
  • Improved crossings points for pedestrians and cyclists at side junctions.
  • New dropped kerbs and tactile paving.
  • Improved signposting.

The new facilities will encourage more people to consider walking and cycling, especially for local journeys, and will support proposed developments in the area such as the CPNN on the former Filton airfield site.

The improvements are being funded through a combination of developer contributions and the West of England Combined Authority.

To enable the works to be carried out lane 1 on the western side of the carriageway (heading north along the A38) will be closed to traffic. The closure will be in place around the clock during the work.

The shared-use path on the western side of the carriageway will be closed during the work. Pedestrians and cyclists will need to use the shared-use path on the opposite side.

The Filton College northbound bus stop (near Loverose Way) will also be suspended for the first six weeks of the work.

As the work progresses, we may need to introduce further traffic management and the dates and timeframes above may be subject to change. We will continue to keep the community updated.
