South Glos Council has informed us that works to install a traffic island in Kelston Close for the School Streets scheme begins on Monday 12th August.  This work is expected to last a week.  Kelston Close will be subject to a temporary road closure from the point where the existing school street signs are located and therefore no access to either Abbotswood School, the nursery or the playing fields during the works will be allowed to ensure the safety of the work force.

The work is being undertaken to provide a formal barrier for the ‘School Street’ that is in operation in Kelston Close at drop off and pick up times.  A School Street is a scheme where the streets outside a school are closed to traffic at school opening and closing times.  Closing the streets to traffic helps to achieve a safer, more pleasant environment by improving local air quality and making it safer and easier for children walking and cycling to school.  Cyclists and scooters will be able to bypass the island unhindered.

Kelston Close School Street operates between the hours of 8.30-9.00am & 2.45-3.30pm Monday to Friday during school term time. It does not operate in the school holidays or at weekends.

Works to extend the footway at the entrance to Culverhill School will start on the 19th August and will last approximately two weeks.  The first week will involve works to realign the kerbs on both sides of the access.  The second week will involve the installation of the tactile paving and footway surfacing.  It is currently planned to re-surface the entrance as far as the school gates on Thursday & Friday 29th & 30th with the road markings also being done at this time, subject to the weather.

Both schemes should be completed before the schools return on the 4th September.
